Description | A chronological analysis of the historical and cultural contexts of the visual arts from prehistoric times to the 14th century. Primarily an examination of Western painting, sculpture, architecture and related visual arts from prehistoric times to the end of the Gothic Period in the late Middle Ages. Investigate major artistic developments and significant works of art from prehistoric times to the 14th century. Analyze the relationship of art to history by placing works of art within cultural, historical, and chronological contexts. Major Assignments Schedule |
Introduce Yourself Discussion Board Post/Syllabus Quiz:You will complete a discussion board post that answers all questions on the prompt including a couple of questions regarding the syllabus during the first week of class. Attendance/Participation: During the week, students will complete readings, reading quizzes, discussion board posts/art assignments and/or assignments pertaining to the midterm or final written exam. Completing and submitting these assignments before 11:00 PM on Sundays will be accounted for in a Weekly Participation grade. Discussion Board: Each week you will have an assignment due in the discussion board (written or recorded video) to respond to a serious of questions about specific works of art and comment on classmate’s responses. Reading Quizzes: Each week will contain one quiz related to that week’s readings. You can take the quizzes multiple times and you have unlimited time to complete each quiz. Midterm Project: Students will follow directions in the Midterm Group Project folder to progressively complete a project on art. Final Written Assignment: For the class final, students will write a 2-3 page paper responding to the assigned artist, following directions provided in the Final Written Assignment folder. The Final Written Assignment will be due on December 6th but the assignment will be released three weeks ahead of the due date so students have plenty of time to complete.
